At home, while away from home

Temporary housing for adult patients and their caregivers.

Our main mission at Amy’s Place is to provide temporary housing for adult patients and their caregivers that travel to the San Gabriel Valley area for any type of medical treatment.

We believe that a holistic approach to a patient's care greatly improves the chance to recover quickly due to less financial and emotional stress.

About Amy’s Place

Amy Torrez is the founder, President and Executive Director of Amy’s Place. She started this nonprofit based on a six-month experience of temporary housing in Houston, Texas where her father was diagnosed and treated for lymphoma.

A local church provided fully furnished apartments for families that were traveling for their medical care. The apartment allowed Amy as the caregiver to rest, recharge and release any emotions she had in the privacy of her own space. In this home-like setting, Amy was able to cook meals for her father and when he was released from the hospital, it allowed him to feel normal again in a regular apartment.

When Amy’s father passed in 2000, she came back to Indiana where she saw the same sort of need for temporary housing for individuals traveling for medical care. She started a similar nonprofit in 2015 which not only became a way for Amy to pay forward the generosity that she received long ago, but also a way to provide the comfort and compassion she knew those individuals needed… just as she and her father had needed.

In October 2023, Amy became a full-time caregiver again when a loved one was injured in a bike accident. However, this time she was in Austin, Texas. Later, she moved to the San Gabriel Valley area for the remainder of her loved one’s recovery.

Now, Amy combines her personal story with her passion for helping others to operate Amy’s Place, providing temporary housing for adult patients that are traveling to receive treatment in the San Gabriel Valley area from City of Hope and USC Arcadia Hospital just to name a few.
